Should i go to a normal doctor if i have an Ingrown-Toenail Infection?

I've been having it for 1 and a half month already. And i can't wear shoes cause it'd hurt the toe. Not to mention there's lump/swollen. So should i go to the doctor or someplace else? If i go to the doctor, what would happen to my toe? Or what would the doctor do to ';cure'; it?

And I meant, a normal Doctor who you see/visit when you have a fever, Cold, Flu etc.

Because there isn't any Podiatrist that lives near me.Should i go to a normal doctor if i have an Ingrown-Toenail Infection?
Yes, go to the doctor immediately. Also, start soaking your foot in warm salty water twice a day. If you can't get in to see a doctor in less than a week, you might have to go to the emergency room.

Why would you wait so long to take care of this when it is obviously only going to get worse? You could lose your foot, your leg or even die from this. Call for an appointment immediately and tell them you need to get in right away.Should i go to a normal doctor if i have an Ingrown-Toenail Infection?
My doctor refuses to work on ingrown toenails; he says that is a specialty and belongs to a specialist. So he referred me to a podiatrist. Of course, here in Chicago one is never too far away from a specialist.

The procedure I witnessed probably looks easier than it is. The doctor numbed the toe with some sort of (very cold) anesthetic, then took the sterilized equivalent of tin snips and just cut the thing out. Took a few days to heal, but while podiatrists are ';in there'; they sever the growth nerve so that the problem will never arise again. And it counts as ';invasive surgery'; though probably the very least kind. You might need a followup.

I myself would trust a general physician to do the snip if he has any experience at all. I infer that you are not in a big-city situation so perhaps the local doc. has to be more a jack-of-all-trades.

Good luck! And do have the procedure; you need never worry about that pain and infection again!
Yes, go see your normal Doctor. They may refer you to a Podiatrist because sometimes it's best to see a specialist.

To treat it, they will cut out the nail that's ingrown. They should also give you some antibiotics and advice on how to prevent future problems.

Good Luck!
