My child has an ingrown toenail. My ex-husband took her to a doctor who said that it was a staph infection?

She has had the infection for a week but has seemed to get better. Her dad claimed to take her in to the doctor instead of home treatment. The doctor supposedly said that it became a staph infection. I had never heard this before. Is it possible for an ingrown toenail to result in a staph infection? My child has an ingrown toenail. Yes, it's quite possible. With any puncture or broken area of the skin (for any reason) the bacteria can enter the wound and cause the infection.

It is not unreasonable that her ingrown toenail punctured the skin (while growing and imbedded or if she or someone else was doctoring/cutting at the nail) and caused the bacterial infection to set in.My child has an ingrown toenail. It is a type of infection caused by a Staphylococcus (or ';staph';) bacteria. Actually, about 25% of people normally carry staph in the nose, mouth, genitals, and anal area. The foot is also very prone to pick up bacteria from the floor. The infection often begins with a little cut, which gets infected with bacteria. So its very possible.
One of the problems of ingrowing toe nail is bacterial infection. The infection could be caused by Staphylococcus or any other bacteria. And the control of the infection is necessary before definitive surgical treatment. So the ingrowing toe nail doesn't become staph, but rather the staph is secondary to the ingrowing nail.
If theres an infection like fever last for several days even on and off fever it means he has infection..

now...

Staphylococcus aureus infection sould be suspected and he needs antibiotics that can kills the pathogens contributed for inflammation.
