Ingrown toenail?

I have an infected, horribly painful ingrown toenail. My doctor copay is $25, so I would like to avoid a doctor's visit, as that's a good 3 hours of work! I cut my nail above the ingrown part, and tore the nail towards the ingrown part, which should have removed the ingrown part, but it still hurts and is infected, even though I put neosporin on it daily. Is there anything else I can do to fix it?Ingrown toenail?
I would recommend getting some Epsom salt and soke your foot in that. You can either do it in the tub or in a basin of warm water and just place some of the salt in the water. if you do it in the tub sit on the side of the tub but do not get in all the way. after soaking your foot for 10 minutes or so while the foot is still wet rub the skin away from the ingrown side. so if the ingrown area is on your right big toe on the right side rub the right side of your toe to the right. this will help the skin move behind the ingrown part. if this does not work i would check with your insurance and see if you have to see your primary care physician first or if you can just go see a specialist. if you have to see your PCP (primary care physician) then do that and they may send you to a podiatrist (foot doctor) but if you can go see a specialist find a podiatrist that is taking new patients and go see them. they can take care of you! hope this helps and good luckIngrown toenail?
Use peroxide, pour it on the infection and dab it with a cloth or cotton ball, you need to get that infection out nomatter what or you could lose a toe, squeeze that infection out after, and then add more peroxide to it. Once that's done, get some tweezers and get that nail out of there. If you want some pain relief in doing this just get some asprin, advil or tylenol, and take it about 15 minutes before you do this. You need to do this, it's either this or a doctor. I do this myself too, i hate doctors, and won't go unless i have to. I've had several ungrown nails, and this always works for me. Hope this works for you.

Best wishes, Take care.
The only way to get rid of it permanently is to see a podiatrist %26amp; have it surgically removed. My daughter did the Epsom salt soaks, antibiotics, etc. She had surgery 5 years ago %26amp; hasn't had a problem since.
iof all else fails the way to get rid of all pain in the toe is amputation! Sorry about that but do not know of solution as my ingrown toenails have never got that bad as I always cut a small V in the top of my nails to stop them growing inwards. Hope it hasn't ruined your festive season and a happy new yaer
Hey I'm 16 and I just got ingrown toenail surgery today, seriously.

Both of my big toes were swollen and oozy and on both side of each toe to and ingrown so I went with my mom to the clinic and a podiatrist did a small operation on me that day.

I will be completely honest.

I got these ingrown toenails 3 years ago probably because of cutting the edges of my nails too short. I tried fixing them myself a bit by cutting the edge of my toenail at an angles and pulling the nail all the way down so it wasn't deep into the skin as much.

This is a dumb thing to do to be honest, it may just be my opinion but I think eventually your nails will just get worst, or possibly infected the longer you wait.

I am 16 and yes I am afraid of doctors, thats why I didn't go to one when I first got it.. I am not lying I hate doctors and surgery so much when I FINALLY went it I told the doctor I said I would prefer being asleep during it or I might throw-up but it was so much easier then I thought.

The doctor will tell you to lay down on the bed with your shoes off, then he will give you 2 shots in each toe that is ingrown, not at the top where it is swollen, at the bottom, I fear getting shots but all you feel is a tiny little prick not even enough to make me cringe or say ouch.

Then your toe will start to numb from the novicaine from the shot, your toe will be cleaned well with a brown substance, then the doctor will test to make sure the toe is numb, not just a tiny bit numb like when your foot falls asleep, I meen it will be like REALLY NUMB, if it isn't, it should though then tell him and he can give you more, then he will begin the operation of removing the part of the nail that is ingrown.

This part did not hurt for me AT ALL. You would think this would be the worst part but seriously it isnt, take your hand and apply a tiny bit of pressure on your other hand, that's I could feel, no pain, he told me a joke or two and I laughed.

You do not watch the operation either, you are layed back.a

Then he will apply a substance to the part where it was ingrown so that the nail will not grow back there again.

After he will wrap your toe up good and you are allowed to put your socks and shoes back on and walk out the door.

For me, like I said I had to have both of my nails done and on both sides and it only took like 15-20 minutes I think.

For me the worst part of it all is the after pain, after the novicaine wears off your toe will sting, not bad enough for your to cry, lol.. I am typing this message up to you and I had ingrown toe nail surgery only 5 hours ago.

And I had it far worse then you probably, I waited 3 years and mine were really swollen and oozy, and not only that but I had BOTH of my big toes ingrown and on both sides.

So if you only have one toe that is ingrown or 2 toes only on one side then it will even be more of a breeze then what I'm making out mine to have been.

Usually you are suppose to take tylenol to help the pain a bit and the next day you are to apply peroxide and soak in epson salt for 10 mins and re-bandage it and repeat that daily which I will have to do tommorow, may vary for person to person, your doctor will tell you before you leave.

Seriously though, I am 16 and deathly afraid of doctors and stuff and I had to have 4 parts of nail removed since both of my toes were infected and on each side and the process was such a breeze. I should have consulted a doctor a long *** time ago.

Haha, I'm serious I know how you feel, that's how I felt yesterday when my mom made an appointment for me, my doctor told me people usually get the idea in there head that the doctor is going to take there nail and just rip it out and it's going to hurt like hell but it doesn't hurt at all, after you are home is when the pain starts.

That is all I have to say, if this answer hasn't helped you maybe it has helped someone else because I know how people tend to get worked up over nothing and that's how I was.
Are you positive that you got the nail out? You need to get a cuticle cutter and cut out your ingrown toe nails. Be careful, because infections are dangerous and you can get gang green (I know thats not how you spell it lol) As for keeping your ingrown toenail from hurting, keep your toenails filed down on top surface.
Ouch, ingrown toenails can be really painful if untreated. I use to pick the left corner of my nail on my left foot. I have had the same problem for about 7 years and I left it untreated. I kept waiting for it to grow and then I would do a ';bathroom surgery'; on it to ease the pain for a while. Sure enough the pain came back and later the ingrown toenail was very short and very hard to cut. I just had surgery yesterday and to tell you the truth, it hurts less than doing a bathroom surgery yourself. If your toe is infected seek medical treament right away otherwise the pus might leak to your inner toe and you will have to have it amputated. The surgery itself costed me 100$ but it was worth it. It was quick and painless and now I don't have a problem with it anymore. Also if you wait until later...the infection might be bad enough that the doctor will have to remove your whole toenail so I'd recommend visiting your local foot clinic or hospital as soon as you get the chance.
My son and I both had surgery for that this year. If it is infected you may need an antibiotic at the least. I wouldn't worry about the cost because believe me if it gets worse and you have to have something major done to it you'll loose more than $25.00 and three hours of work. You could loose the toe and several days.

Think, too, your feet are near the ground and more prone to pick up something nasty. Don't take a chance on very bad medical problems down the read.
