How do you know if you have an ingrown toenail?

I am a runner so I have really bad toes(callouses, blisters, and bad toe nails) but on my big toe I have a hard callous that when clipped, starts to bleed. My mom thinks it might be an ingrown toenail. I HATE shots so if it is an ingrown toe nail is there anyway to have it removed w/o a shot? How do you know if you have an ingrown toenail?
it will hurt it will press against your toeHow do you know if you have an ingrown toenail?
some good ways to cure this without a Dr. is to soak your foot in warm water and salt. when you have dried it off put some neosporin on it (or vasaline) repeat this process. Also, put peroxide on it as much as you can this will clean it and keep from infection. trust me it works and releaves pain!

i have had about 7 ingrown toenails and they hurt soo bad! if you catch them early you can go to docter that specializes in feet and you wont have to get a shot but if you wait they put about six shots to numb your toe. They also freeze the skin before the shot to lessen the pain from the shots!

If you have an ingrown toenail, you will notice that the side of your toe, near the nail is red and sensitive. As the condition progresses, it will hurt.

There are ways to take care of it before it does progress though. One way is to take a piece of dental floss and put it under the nail. Tie it up and but a bandage over it to keep it from falling out or moving. Leave it there for a few days and see if you notice any difference. To prevent ingrown toenails, make sure you don't clip your nails too short, and always clip them straight across.

The way you have described it, I don't think you have one, but I couldn't really tell you without a picture.
you should not go to a doctor, instead put healing ointment and band aid and let it soak
