The needles do hurt when they numb it.. its like a really uncomfortable pinch. But after the surgery, it feels so much better to have the pressure and pain gone, and you will be so happy that you did it. Ask a parent or friend to come with you, it helps to have some moral support. The longer you wait though, the worse it will get! And its nearly impossible to heal it yourself and if you keep cutting the nail where it hurts, it will just grow more and get worse over time. Just be brave and go to the doctor, you'll feel so much better after its over!
You really need to go to the doctor and let them do this properly. They can give you valium to relax you so you won't be anxiety ridden about the injection to numb your toe...then take care of the toenail. It is a minor surgical procedure that is completed in the doctor's office, you will receive a stitch or two on either side of the toe where the in-growth was removed, and you'll be sent home with pain meds. It can get seriously infected if not treated properly... I know it's scary, but you need to get this looked at by a doctor. Best wishes! :0)
You'll, sadly, have to go to the doctors office and they'll cut the side of your toe nail that is ingrown. It sounds a lot more painful than it actually is. They will probably give you two options. One is for them to shove a piece of cotton into the toe to cause it to grew in normally. The other is to get it cut off. Getting it cut off is a lot easier. They numb your foot, cut the toe nail, pull and it's over. They'll cover it in gauze and tell you to keep it covered for a day or two and than it's over. There is little to no pain afterward.
