How big are the chances of gangrene to develop in an ingrown toenail?

I've heard that if an ingrown toenail is left unnoticed it can develop gangrene, but i was wondering, how big are the chances? I mean does it always happen if you leave it there, or is it in rare cases only?

Much appreciatedHow big are the chances of gangrene to develop in an ingrown toenail?
You've heard wrong. Get a new source of information. How big are the chances of gangrene to develop in an ingrown toenail?
I have an ingrown nail on both my feet. There is the same chance to contract gangrene as there is if you cut your foot. Really as long as you have good hygiene there is nothing to worry about.
if ur worried about a few weeks, than u probably wont. just dont let it go for too long, soak it and bandage it with medicine. i had mine 2 years, and got it fixed, i had one on both feet, i still have to get the second one fixed, its really starting to hurt, so ill probably be on my way to the doctor soon
the key to that is it being unnoticed. If you just keep it clean and make sure to disinfect it you'll be fine and it should eventually loosen up to the point where you can take it off without pain, or it will fall of on its own.
